How to hang a hook in a plaster ceiling without a stud finder?
I bought a light, it's heavy and glass and hangs from a wire which drips down to a plug. The problem is, I don't own a stud finder, and I need a way to hang a hook in my plaster ceilings and be sure there is no chance the light will ever fall.

there are other ways to find a stud without a finder. knocking on the ceiling with your knuckles and listening and feeling the difference between a hollow sound and a solid thud of the stud. another option is to take a very small nail, like a picture hanging brad nail and hammer it in the ceiling until you find a stud. Or other options are, buy a toggle bolt to hang the lamp, it takes away even having to find a stud. Or, if its a one story house, find the attic access and see which way the studs run inside the ceiling to help determine the location of one. personally, i would only hang it if you find a stud, to be safe.
