horse kicks when mounting?
ive got an older, very spirited appy mare thats barn sour. recently whenever i get ready to mount( i ride western thankfully) the little snot tries to kick me.and she usually gets a smack even tho i dont like to, but i dnt lk her licking me, its bad!. she has an attitude problem so i think that might b it. but the saddle and everything fits ok, i dont see any burrs or flies since its winter...
but other than that she usually behaves pretty well. and she doesnt kick when i dismount. she started this about 4 days ago. i dont think shes colicing because she poops just fine and acts just fine any other time..
ill see what she does tomoro and if it continues ill call my trainer and/or the vet.
assuming this is all behavior/being spoiled how would u stop this? i do alot of ground work with her already shes never tried to kick at me before.
Is she hairy right now? Could the cinch be pulling on her hair and irritating her?
Or, it could very simply be that she is complaining about leaving the barn or her buddies. In that case, I would suggest you contact your trainer. There is nothing wrong with getting after her for kicking at you, you dont have to make excuses.
