Is boiled water good for fish?
Ok so I want to do a water change and i have tap water and want to boil it let it cool and then use the stress coat and put in my tank is this a good idea?
No! Boiling does nothing for it really except remove oxygen, which is not a good thing for fish. If you have chlorine in the water it will speed the evaporation of chlorine, but then you have to wait not only for it to cool, but give it 24 to 48 hours to reabsorb all the oxygen boiling removed.
If you have chloramine in your water, boiling does NOTHING but remove oxygen. Chloramine does not evaporate out, it must be removed chemically with a water conditioner that is specifically made for it, there is no other way, period.(And that's one of the reasons I hate the stuff!)
Stick to water conditioner. If your water conditioner contains stress coat, fine, but I rarely(like once in the last 10 years) use it. The benefit is minimal and too much can be harmful.(If it coats a fish's gills too thickly, they're toast.)
