concrete in a drainage ditch?
i work in a maintance department and every once in a while we do little projects. the one we are currently worknig on is a replacing of a section of a v-ditch that had a water break under it and had to have a section ripped out. anyways we are at a loss at how to build and set the forms. any ideas? its about 36in high and about 19 ft long. im really concerned that if we build forms and brace it with kickers to the other side of the "v" that it will rise on us. the only thing that i can think is to pour it thick a little at a time using a vibrator to the extreme. does this sound good? any ideas will be appreciated!
we did the pour today and it went well except for a "little" blow out on one end,and we also lost the window in the back of the truck as a casualty. we were loading up all the extra wood and some one was a little excited and put a little extra on the toss! poor back window, he will be missed.
Build your "V" frame with the trough of the V resting on the intact sections. Make the bracing on the sides of the "V" higher than you need by some 6". Attach cross pieces to the bracing about every 3'. These cross pieces should extend out past the top end of the "V" far enough so they can be anchored to stakes driven in the ground and do not interfere with the pour. This will serve two purposes, stabilize the form and support weight. Place a heavy weights on these cross pieces to keep the form from rising while you pour. An alternative approach would be so space the cross pieces far enough so the weight pieces can be put directly into the form. I can draw some pictures if necessary.
