Just got a dado blade for my Table Saw,What kind of trouble can I expect, any safety tips?
Ditto on what David said. Your saw came with two plates for the blades one for single and one for dado blades. Forget the one for the dado blade and use it to make yourself a template. Take some hardwood and trace the plate on the hardwood (hardwood same thickness of plate). You will want to make 2-3 of them. Once you have them fitting snugly and flush with the tabletop you will want to clamp it down with some thin cauls and clamps. Be sure the blade is lowered all the way when fitting and clamping in place. Now turn on the saw and slowly raise the blade. Take your time so the sawdust can clear while raising. Once the blade has come through the hardwood all the way you will have a zero clearance insert for that thickness.
Now your ready to do dado's. Be sure you watch how the piece of wood doesn't pinch between the fence and blade to prevent kickback. Wide pieces are fairly safe with the use of a push block. Narrow pieces you will want to use your miter gauge for cutting dado's instead of the fence to prevent kickback. When making dado's they should be no deeper than 1/3 the thickness of the wood. Making wide and deep dado's do it in two passes to prevent wood from heating up and causing a fire. ALWAYS USE PUSH BLOCKS AND CLAMPS TO SECURE YOUR WORK AND WHERE YOUR SAFETY GLASSES.

North Island College values safety of its students
Dear editor, I appreciate Mr. Knowles' critique of the apprentice operating a table saw as displayed in the Record (Feb. 23). Mr. Knowles is correct if the apprentice was performing a rip cut. However, the apprentice is instead cutting a small rabbet into the edge of the board. The operation was set up and demonstrated by the instructor prior to the student undertaking the cut.
