what is perimeter? if A piece of wire 44cm long cut into 2parts&each part is bent to form a square,total area ?

if A piece of wire is 44cm long cut into 2 pieces & each part is bent to form a square,total area of two square is 65 cm,what will be the perimeter of two square?

with x being the side length of square 1 and y being the side length of square 2:

65 = x^2 + y^2
44 = 4x + 4y

isolating x in the second equation:

4x = 44 - 4y
x = (44-4y)/4 = 11-y

substitute this value for x into the first one:

65 = (11-y)^2 + y^2
= 121 -22y +y^2 + y^2 (-121 bs)

-56 = -22y + 2y^2 = 2(-11y + y^2) (div by 2 bs)
-28 = -11y+y^2 (+28bs)
y^2 - 11y + 28 = 0

solve this quadratic equation and you get:
y = 4 or 7
solving for x :
x = 11-y = 7 or 4

perimeter = 4x, 4y
so the perimeters of the two squares are: 16 and 28
