Physics Momentum How far does it move before coming to rest again?
Two people are standing on a 2.2 m long platform, one at each end. The platform floats parallel to the ground on a cushion of air, like a hovercraft. One person throws a 5.9 kg ball to the other, who catches it. The ball travels nearly horizontally. Excluding the ball, the total mass of the platform and people is 112 kg. Because of the throw, this 112 kg mass recoils. How far does it move before coming to rest again?
We need the velocity of the ball.
Then
Momentum of ball = Momentum of platform
From this we can calculate the velocity of the platform
Ball moving right, platform moving left. The velocity of the ball relative to the person catching is:
Velocity of ball + velocity of platform. = Vtotal
2.2 m = Vtotal * time
Solve for time.
We can assume the platform stops as soon as the ball is caught.
Distance-platform = Platform * time

I have a question, from a topic that I read on strategy page, it was called Ma Duce replacement stumbles. It said that the XM312 with its low rate of fire did not impress the troops, so what of the future of this weapon? Can someone please help me with this?
