In terms of the width of the cut is there a big difference between the mark left by a jigsaw vs Sawzall saw?

I am doing a forensic investigation and need to know if the tool marks between these two saws are different (width, characteristics etc.).

Typically yes. Usually a Recip Saw will leave a rougher cut with a wider kerf. This is all blade dependent. It would be possible for a jigsaw to mimic a recip Saw Cut and a recip saw to mimic a jigsaws cut.

So, your question should be
Would a Reciprocating Saw and a jigsaw, with blades of the same characteristics(thickness, length, width, material of construction, number of teeth, tooth pattern, tooth size, etc) make identical cuts?

The answer to my question would be maybe. Reciprocating saws and jigsaws are held differently. The shoe on each is quite different. The shoe on a recip saw is small, you lean into the saw when making a cut. A jigsaw has a large shoe (base) and the weight of the saw is used to your advantage.

practically speaking a jigsaw and recip saw are used for very different purposes. typically a recip saw is used in demolition of wood or steel and makes very rough cuts quickly. A Jig Saw is typically used for making smooth, curved cuts in wood.
